Championship Course Information

The Championship Course is one of the premier public courses in the Saratoga-Capital Region of NYS, and a consistent recipient of 4 stars from Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play.  The original holes were opened in 1936.  In the late 1950s golf course architect William Mitchell was brought in, and designed the course we all enjoy today.  Shortly thereafter, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player played a commemorative round to celebrate the reopening of the course.  Set in a pine forest, the course derives much of its character from the majestic pines that frame several holes, creating a feeling of seclusion.

This beautiful course is both challenging and golfer friendly.  We offer 5 sets of tees, and strongly encourage all golfers, regardless of gender, to choose the tees most appropriate for their golf game.  Yardage from the front tees is 5567yds., and from the championship tees the course measures 7141yds.   While the course can be quite long, and there are numerous trees and bunkers, landing areas are ample, and the greens are large with moderate pace.  The terrain is generally firm and flat, and the rough moderate.  Much of the wooded area is kept clear of underbrush, and there are only a couple of water hazards.  In addition to taking some of the strain out of the game, this helps to keep play flowing.

Play is very carefully monitored in order to maintain our pace of play of just less than 15 minutes per hole.  Even though we host approximately 40,000 rounds of golf annually, the vast majority of those rounds are completed in 4 ½ hours or less.  Please review our Pace of Play program for details on how we, in cooperation with our golfers, are able to maintain this very comfortable pace.

The golfer friendly, yet challenging nature of our course, and the consistent, comfortable pace of play you can count on, are 2 of the reasons why Spa Golf is the perfect choice for many group events.  Most groups include quite a few novice and occasional golfers who are very comfortable on our course, at the same time that the more serious golfers in the group enjoy our great layout.  We host many successful golf outings every year, and our experienced staff can provide all the assistance you need to make your event successful.

Tee times are available in person, by telephone, and on the Internet.

Except for the very beginning and very end of the golf season, food and beverage service is available at Catherine’s in the Park, which is on site.  Most of the year, there is a beverage cart serving the course.  Whether you group is small or not so small, Catherine’s is an excellent place for your after golf event.

During the summer, enjoy the Victoria Pool before, or after, your round.  Food and beverage service is available poolside.
